Do You Want to Get a Florida Vacation Deal?

By Gail Nettles

Are you willing to put a little time into searching for ways to stretch your vacation dollars? If this appeals to you, you'll be amazed at some of the great Florida vacation deals that can be found, both online and off.

Here are some ideas for finding the best of the Florida vacation deals around.

Before You Start...

Be aware of your planned dates. Are you flexible or are there certain dates that you need to schedule your vacation around? If make these decisions before you start your research, you'll be narrowing down all the information out there, and you'll find more targeted and constructive deals.

Something to think about; July through September are hot, humid and possibly have hurricanes here in the Sunshine State. On the other hand, because of this, some of the top vacation deals can be located for August and September. If your vacation budget is a serious consideration, you may want to think about these months.

On the other hand, the time from Christmas through March is the more pricey time of the year, when people flock to Florida from the freezing northern states!

Tip #1

When you have an idea of your vacation dates, it's time to take a trip to a travel agency. Even in this internet age, not all Florida vacation places have an online website, especially those in Northwest Florida!

You can combine both offline and online worlds by getting your brochures and using them as a starting point for your online research.

Tip #2

Next it's time for some serious surfing -- on the web, that is. Take a look at the sites of the travel companies that handle Florida vacations, for their most up-to-the-minute prices. There will sometimes be "internet only" deals on websites.

Once you have located a deal that interests you then call the agent or company and make them a lower offer for the vacation package. You would probably be surprised at how many of them are willing to offer a "hot" customer a deal, than possibly lose them to a competitor who will. Even more so if it is for the Florida "slow season" where bookings are a tad on the slim side.

Idea #3

Magazines and newspapers are also a great way to track down current Florida vacation deals. When a newspaper covers a story on a holiday location, they usually have more than a few travel organizations advertising packages and deals around the feature.

But here's a hint you may not realize; when you look at the advertisements (usually for the most costly seasons of the year), check if booking a trip several weeks earlier or later makes a difference.

For example, if there was an article on Disney World in the summer, bear this in mind -- the difference in resort prices between the middle of August vs the end of August can be hundreds of dollars. You could save a lot of cash by moving your trip dates back a few weeks, or even days!
